This Blooms Day post will be a quickie. There’s not much still happening in the Microgarden this November. When the flowers are past their prime, how grateful we are for bright-coloured foliage: Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’
A nursery Chrysanthemum – almost as spherical as the pumpkin beside it. Don’t be depressed if your mums never look this full. Growers are expert at manipulating through hormones and pruning to make potted mums go puffy.
Hydrangea ‘Limelight’ is blushing beautifully – but I show the closeup, because the foliage has already disappeared. The ‘Annabelle’ hydrangeas by contrast are brown, sere, and sulking in a new spot in the garden.
The charming goldfish seedheads of Chasmanthium or northern sea oats, one of this year’s additions. I’ll plant more next year, to create a river of grasses. Hopefully, I can resist choosing the variegated form C. ‘River Mist.’ One can overdo variegation.
In the back garden, three end-of-season, $6 pots of Geranium ‘Rozanne’ – my year’s best buy. They’re bejewelling the back bed with luminous amethysts. Otherwise, things are pretty quiet back there.
Look up; look waaaaaaaaaaay up. No, not Friendly Giant, but the last few ‘New Dawn’ roses. Hey, it’s November. We’ll take whatever Mother Nature is serving.
To see what’s going on in gardens all over the world this November 2011, saunter over to May Dreams Gardens, where every 15th of the month, Carol invites gardeners to show our bloomers.

Hey, now bad at all! Somehow I expected a picture of snow, but that just shows how out of touch I am.
Happy Bloom Day!
I love that brilliant red leaf!
Everything's all autumny! I like it.
Lovely post…those 'Rozanne' plants are a definite score!!!
GORgeoUs – all of it! Your Rozannes are real jewels!
Wonderful photos! With Christmas music being played in the stores already, it's good to be reminded that it's still autumn. Heck, in Buffalo, we haven't even had our Thanksgiving yet!
