Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ |
This is when the Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) ‘Bloodgood’ really starts living up to its name. Today, the sun was lighting up maples like this all over the city. ‘Bloodgood’ is one of the tougher ones – which it has to be in my dry shade garden. This is its second year, and I’m hoping it’ll stick around for many more. Coincidentally, I’ve just come across this excellent Landscape Ontario fact sheet on Japanese maples. Wish I had room for more. But ‘Bloodgood’ is bloody good for now.

Such a graceful leaf. I can see why people go to great lengths to overwinter them here (zone 3) in garages etc. Love the colour too!
That shade is gorgeous.
Indeed it is.
If I were brave, I'd have a fabric made from this picture and wear it as a dress.
'Bloodgood' is very popular over here as well 🙂
I've enjoyed catching up with your recent posts very much – thoughtful, useful and an introduction to a completely new plant. I wish I'd known about the Victorian Garden Tours, but I suspect NAH wouldn't have been that amenable to going on one and besides I had a completely new family relative to meet!
BTW it looks like you're quietly doing NaBloPoMo to me?
