Spotted along the bike trail on the north side of the white picnic shelter near the Leuty Lifeguard Station.
Unsure how this piece of living artwork came about, or what effect it has on the life of the tree. My guess is that the bark formation came first and the artist tweaked it to help nature along.
Looks gently done. But perhaps we should say: don’t try this at home.

How excellent! It’s like that bagel that had the Mother Teresa image a few years back that ended up getting stolen. Actually, this reminds me of a man-made creation we referred to as the “Indian Rock”. Someone painted a silhoutte of a native american in the rocks on a rural Pennsylvania road that we traversed as kids going to and from my grandparents’ houses. So cool!
